From first conversation to completion

How a deal works

What changes when you sell, when to sell, how a practice is valued, and how you get paid. Plainly, with nothing hidden.

What changes

What changes when you sell

You remain a leader in your practice. What changes is the weight of everything that used to pull you away from it.

In the surgery: stays yours

Today: on your desk as well

Everything runs through you: the dentistry, and the business wrapped around it.

After the sale: carried and supported by Mia's central team

Mia owns the practice and carries the business around it. You keep leading the practice and its clinical work.

You remain a leader

You keep leading your practice and its team, with Mia's support behind you rather than over you.

Clinical autonomy

Treatment is decided in the surgery, by the treating clinician. Nobody at head office sets clinical targets.

Less on everyone's desk

Head office takes on payroll, HR, compliance, finance and marketing, for you and for your team.

Room for your team

Clinical and non-clinical staff get training and career pathways across the group.

Continuity for patients

If you retire, the practice carries on, and your patients pass to a clinician you helped choose.

Before any sale

When to sell

When to sell, and how it happens

There is no right age to sell. The best time is usually before you have to. Planned early, a sale is your choice. Left late, it tends to happen on the buyer's terms. Not ready yet?

Plan your exit with us

Getting to know you

You, your practice, and your goals for your career, your life and your team.

Step 2

Collecting the data

We work directly with whoever in your practice is best placed to help, so it doesn't land on you.

Step 3

A fair valuation

We walk you through it assumption by assumption, so it is clear rather than just a number.

Step 4

Agreements drafted and explained in plain language, with your advisers in the room.

Step 5

Managing the transition

Support for you and your team, with timeline and expectations set together.

Step 6

The sale

Completion, and the group's tools working for your practice from day one.

Valuation

How a practice is valued

There is no number on this site, because a number without your financials would be a guess. These are the factors that make a practice a strong or weak proposition. We walk you through how each one applies to yours.

The first factor

The culture and personality fit between us

Whether we share the same values about patients, teams and dentistry. It shapes every other factor.

  • Location

Where the practice is, the community around it, and how hard it would be to replicate.

  • Surgeries and clinicians

How many surgeries there are, and how many clinicians work from them.

  • Production and procedure mix

What the practice does, including the share of production from hygiene.

  • Growth

Whether revenue and patient numbers are rising, flat or falling.

  • Profitability

How profitable the current model is, and how clearly that can be shown.

  • Staff and team

A stable team with clear roles, and depth beyond any one person.

  • Patient growth and retention

New patients coming in, and existing patients coming back.

  • Your goals and timeline

What you want from the deal, and when, shapes how it is valued and structured.

Getting paid

How deals are structured, and how you get paid

Most deals combine several of these. The mix depends on the path you choose and your tax position.

  1. Day one

    At completion

Cash paid on the day the sale goes through.

  2. Fixed timetable

    On agreed dates

Further payments on a fixed timetable, set out in the agreement.

  3. While you practise

    Ongoing compensation

A market-related clinical rate for your work in the chair, agreed before you sign.

  4. Optional, long term

A possible stake in the group

For owners who want to build with us, part of the value may stay invested in what Mia becomes.

Our support

Our support through the deal

  • Tax, designed personally

Through Izak Smith at IJS Chartered Accountants in Cape Town, with one brief: as efficient for you as the law allows.

  • Help, not lists

When we need something, our team works with yours to find it. You won't be sent a list of documents and left to it.

  • Legals in plain language

Contracts explained in layman's terms, line by line, as many times as it takes.

  • Your advisers, welcome
